[d2l-consortium] Carmen/D2L accessibility testing in January 07

Morae is a really fabulous tool. I have been using it for a couple of
years now and really appreciate it.
You may be interested in Tecsmith's new remote usability testing tool by
the same company. It is called "UserVue". I would highly recommend
trying to get on their Beta. The tool has potential for accessibility
testing because it allows people to use their own PC (with their own
software, configurations etc.) I haven't tried out its chat component
with a screen reader yet.
(No.. I don't have family working at Techsmith :) )
For the AJAX stuff - we're working to get things posted at a site so
people can login and try them out. I think what we're working on is
fairly conservative and predictable compared to some things I've seen -
it would be really good to get a second opinion.

Hi Janna,
Definitely! Web 2.0 / AJAX / DHTML controls are a gray area regarding
accessibility. The problem hinges on access for screen readers and how
you inform the screen reader user that something on the page has been
updated. There are also some questions regarding users with cognitive
and mobility disabilities.
We would be very interested in testing this functionality in
Desire2Learn. By that point (January), we will have developed our own
set of protocols for accessibility testing and we will have one or more
Morae licenses for statistics.
Keep us all in the loop. I have forwarded this thread to both the
d2l-consortium list and to the atug-ask list. It will be people in ATUG
(our Accessible Technology Users Group) who will be performing the
testing here at OSU.
I'm sure that other people in the D2L Consortium will want to be
involved, as well. For OSU folks, having a Carmen look and feel would be
helpful, I think.
(Note: I've changed the subject of this email thread and stripped out a
couple of unrelated messages.)
