Greetings, and apologies for any cross-posting,

The Digital Union and the Web Accessibility Center invite you
to attend this Caption Mic speech recognition demonstration.
If your department is exploring podcasting or creating rich multimedia,
this demonstration may be of interest.

Transcripts and captioning enhance usability by creating a searchable
index of audio and video content, supporting English Language Learners
and providing access for individuals with hearing impairments. For
more info on this event, please contact Ken Petri at petri.1 at osu.edu.

What: Caption Mic speech recognition captioning system demonstration
Where: Digital Union, Wireless Conference Area,
Room 370, Science and Engineering Library.
When: 10 AM, Friday, December 8, 2006.

ULTECH's Mark Hall will be demonstrating the Caption Mic speech
recognition-based system for automating transcription and live
captioning.

Caption Mic is a speech recognition captioning system first developed in
2002 for the National Captioning Institute. A person trains the system
to recognize his voice and then echoes or repeats what is being said.
This voice captioner also adds punctuation verbally and filters out the
non-word utterances.

Besides video production and broadcast television, Caption Mic is being
used to provide access in classrooms, meetings, and church services.
ULTECH, the parent company of Caption Mic, has recently
released its ccSatellite technology that allows the voice captioner to
be in a remote location. ccSatellite handles the audio, data, and
provides outputs for a variety of displays.

Caption Mic can be used to create and encode captions to Line 21 VBI for
video and create caption files for DVD, Real Player, Windows Media
Player, and Quicktime. By using Caption Mic in conjunction with a
Windows Media Encoder, it is possible to provide live captions for
webcasts.

Caption Mic offers a cost effective alternative to professional
transcription services.
